June Ackland has handed in her warrant card and retired from the police service! Trudie Goodwin, who has played June for over 23 years, has filmed her last scene of The Bill. Straight afterwards Trudie was presented with gifts and flowers and many kind words from her fellow actors and the show’s producers. June Ackland was the last original character from the pilot show Woodentop, so saying goodbye was a poignant and historical moment in The Bill’s history.
Onscreen, June’s character is referred to as Saint June or Aunty June – off screen Trudie is affectionately known as Dame Trudie or The Dame by the crew.
One of the gifts Trudie was presented with was a commemorative photo album with pictures of some key scenes of her character’s history at Sun Hill.
