While questioning the neighbours, Stuart speaks to a man called Ray Moore (Mark Bonnar) about the fire. Back at Sun Hill, the mention of Ray Moore’s name rattles Superintendent John Heaton (Daniel Flynn), adding complications to his already difficult day. Angry, the Superintendent tells Stuart, Mickey and DCI Jack Meadows (Simon Rouse) that Ray specialises in extortion and blackmail and is also a violent psychopath. He has never done any time and they need to sharpen up their act if they are to bring him down. After arguing with estranged wife, Rhiannion (Rebecca Charles), Heaton calls her and warns her to take their daughter and leave London as Ray is back in town. Intrigued, Mickey and Jack try attempt to uncover how exactly Heaton and Ray know each other…

Wednesday 4 April
Met Press officer, Mia Perry (Jo-Anne Knowles), confronts Superintendent John Heaton (Daniel Flynn) about a boy who died the previous day as a result of a high speed pursuit involving PCs Will Fletcher (Gary Lucy) and Diane Noble (Kaye Wragg) - the press want answers. DCI Jack Meadows (Simon Rouse) and DCs Mickey Webb (Chris Simmons) and Terry Perkins (Bruce Byron) are shocked when Heaton informs them that the driver, Paddy Morgan who has gone missing after being held in police custody, is presumed dead. Heaton says that he believes Morgan was being chased by a hit man sent to kill him by known associate, Ray Moore (Mark Bonnar). Heaton tells his team that Morgan was last seen being coerced into a white van and orders the cops to do an analysis of both Morgan and Moore’s mobile phones to trace their last movements.
Later, the Superintendent is astounded when Inspector Gina Gold (Roberta Taylor) informs him of Annie (Megan Jossa), a little girl who is threatening a boy with a gun. Heaton tells her that Annie is Moore’s daughter and they rush to the house. As Terry and Mickey speculate that Annie must have got hold of the gun from her father, Moore arrives. John finally allows him to try and talk his daughter into dropping the gun and makes him wear rubber gloves so he doesn’t contaminate the crime scene. Whilst retrieving the gun, Heaton is angry when he sees that Moore has purposefully taken them off and his prints now have a reason to be on the gun. Moore is smug until Heaton gets Annie arrested. Back at the station, Heaton tells Terry and Mickey that he doesn’t just want Moore done for possession of a firearm, he’s convinced the gun was used to kill Morgan and he wants to prove it. And, whilst working closely together, the professional and personal boundaries between Heaton and Mickey’s girlfriend, Mia, start to become blurred…
Elsewhere, Inspector Gina Gold (Roberta Taylor) is surprised when her married lover, Peter Harris (Peter Guinness) turns up at the station unannounced. She reluctantly agrees to spend the night with him in a hotel with dire consequences…
