Wednesday 17th January

Superintendent Heaton (DANIEL FLYNN) is astounded when Met Press Officer, Mia Perry (JO-ANNE KNOWLES), tells him that the local newspaper is running with a ‘possible closure of Sun Hill’ story. Heaton announces the news to the shocked officers and tells them it’s important to work harder than ever – it’s either them or Barton Street Station. He tells them he will fight Sun Hill’s corner and keep them informed of any developments.

PCs Diane Noble (KAYE WRAGG) and Honey Harman (KIM TIDDY) are called to a house after a call from a concerned postman. A young woman called Karen is found dead on her sofa and the officers read a note left from her to her two young daughters. Honey notices a needle sticking out of Karen’s ankle and realises she committed suicide after over-dosing with heroin. CID are informed and DC’s Mickey Webb (CHRIS SIMMONS) and Jo Masters (SALLY ROGERS) start to investigate. Mickey and Jo visit Karen’s ex-husband, Colin Spence (MARTIN MAYNARD) who has custody of the girls, and are surprised to learn Karen has been drug-free for the past ten months. After searching Karen’s flat, the detectives are intrigued to find lots of bills and receipts showing that she is in a lot of debt. During the search, Karen’s friend, Maggie Ball (RAE HENDRIE) arrives and Honey questions her. Maggie admits Karen was in a lot of debt and was asked by the loan shark to sell crack in order to make the payments. Honey, with toddler, goes undercover as a single mum to a group meeting at the local church attended by Karen and when she is told by church worker Jake Bennett (BRETT FANCY) about a loan she could get, Honey arrests him. Back at the station, Mickey questions Jake who breaks down admitting he is also in a lot of trouble with the same loan shark and eventually gives up his name – Gary Bryce (STEVE WESTON). Mickey feels the pressure when Heaton tells him that if they nail the shark – it’ll be a big reason to keep Sun Hill on the map. Jake is anxious when he is sent, complete with hidden microphone, to see Bryce in an attempt to get him to admit responsibility for Karen’s suicide. Mickey is livid when, during the undercover operation, Colin arrives, blowing the whole investigation. How will Mickey break the news to Heaton and will he find a way of capturing Bryce?

Meanwhile, PCs Roger Valentine (JOHN BOWLER) and Dan Casper (CHRIS JARVIS) are called to a pub where landlord, Vince Morgan (ROBERT HORWELL) is suffering a head wound after being attacked. Roger knows Vince and his wife, Sheila (REBECCA LACEY), and later questions Vince as he recovers in St Hugh’s hospital. Vince explains that they had held a fancy dress stag party at the pub the previous night, but that he had been confronted by a man earlier that morning and four thousand pounds had been stolen. Dan and Roger check CCTV and discover that a man who disappeared into the toilets last night only emerged this morning. He is identified as Spike Randall (JACK PIERCE) but, after questioning, both Dan and Roger realise that not all is what it seems – Is Vince the honest man Roger thinks he is?

Thursday 18th January

With the Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) on their way to fill the team in on a new lead in the Colombian drug deal, DCI Jack Meadows (SIMON ROUSE) is anxious to get undercover cop, DC Zain Nadir (TJ RAMINI) who has been away on holiday, up to speed. At Bar Morocco, Zain and drugs baron, Kristen Shaw (CHRISTINE STEPHEN-DALY), reminisce about their holiday together. Kristen’s business partner, Paul Haskew (GARY WEBSTER) is angry to see the obviously loved-up couple and tells Zain they no longer need him. Zain tries to threaten his way back into the deal, but Haskew is quick to remind him of the incriminating tape of Zain warning Kristen about the police search a couple of weeks ago.

Back at the station, Zain arrives an hour late and explains away his tardiness by telling Jack his plane was delayed. SOCA Officer Marcus Swift (SILAS CARSON) explains to the team that the date of the deal appears to have been brought forward and also that ‘believed-to-be-dead’ drugs mule, Eva Garcia (BEATRIZ ROMILLY) is being discharged from hospital today and will be placed in a safe house. Zain promises to try find out where the deal will take place. PC Honey Harman (KIM TIDDY) is completely unaware of the case, and despite their language barrier, Honey agrees to watch over Eva. Back at Bar Morocco, Zain wins Haskew over by telling him that SOCA know that the deal is taking place the next day. He suggests they feed the cops a dummy location for the deal. Zain secretly comes clean to bar worker, Chez Williams (JUSTIN PICKETT), telling him that he was working undercover when he first asked to be introduced to Kristen, but now he has fallen in love with her, he has crossed over. Chez asks Zain if he’s sure he can trust Kristen – she still seems pretty tight with her ex-lover Haskew. Back in CID, Zain lies through his teeth, assuring DS Phil Hunter (SCOTT MASLEN) that he hasn’t ‘gone native’ and is looking forward to collaring Kristen when the time comes. Zain tells Superintendent Heaton (DANIEL FLYNN), Jack and Officer Swift that the deal is going ahead at Jamaica Docks - a dummy location fed to him by Haskew. The renegade cop has sold his soul and there’s no going back…

Meanwhile, PCs Emma Hinckley (MELANIE GUTTERIDGE) and Will Fletcher (GARY LUCY) attend a shout – Rob Landis (PETE ASHMORE) who called the cops, is worried about his mother who isn’t answering her door. They burst in to find his mother, Jeannie, unconscious with a serious head wound who also appears to have been sexually assaulted. The PCs update DI Neil Manson (ANDREW LANCEL) and DC Mickey Webb (CHRIS SIMMONS) telling them that Rob, with an expensive car, arrived back this morning after a trip to Nice. Elsewhere, DS Stuart Turner (DOUG RAO) calls Neil - Gary Caldwell (MATRIN HANCOCK), a known sex offender whose previous attacks are similar, lives just a few doors down. After questioning Caldwell, Stuart tells Neil that he has broken into two women’s houses in the past but never went through with an assault and he has been released after serving two years in prison - he also has an alibi.

Mickey tells Neil he’s suspicious about Rob, he seems to have been telling a few tall tales about his trip to Nice - perhaps Rob disguised the attack as sexual when the motive was actually monetary. Mickey says that Rob was exaggerating wildly about his job, he’s living in his father’s - a respected biochemist - shadow. Out on the beat, Emma and Will uncover a major breakthrough in the investigation – a blood-soaked hammer used in the attack on Jeannie. Stuart tells Neil and Mickey that not only is the hammer is covered with Caldwell’s fingerprints but his alibi has also fallen through. Confronted with all the evidence against him, Stuart gets Caldwell to fold, admitting that he assaulted Jeannie. Neil insists on leading the remainder of the interview saying something isn’t right. Caldwell gives a series of incorrect details from the assault when questioned about the crime and eventually admits to wanting to go back into prison. He comes clean - he had nothing to do with the attack at the Landis home. Rob is left as the only suspect – is he the type of person who’d attack his own mother?

Also, Honey is feels jealous when she sees Will and Emma partnered together. She later asks Will if he wants to go on holiday together and he uneasily agrees to two weeks in Tenerife before telling PC Tony Stamp (GRAHAM COLE) that his relationship with Honey was just meant to be a bit of fun.
